What is Zimele and how is it different from other non profits?
Zimele is a unique non profit organization which seeks not only to meet the needs of South Africans in the Kwazulu Natal region today, but also to build up the physical, financial, and emotional aspects of their lives and perhaps of the Kwazulu Natal economy.
While there are several relief programs in place throughout South Africa, the majority of them are focused on meeting the immediate needs of the people in the area, whether they are nutritional, medical, or educational.
We believe that Zimele is different. Zimele in Zulu, means ‘to stand on your own two feet’. And our name captures the very spirit of what we are about, and what makes us unique. For we are about equipping the people of South Africa with the tools and mindset to empower them to on their own two feet.
What does the word 'Zimele' mean?
'Zimele' means 'standing on one's feet' in the Zulu language.
What is Zimele's Vision?
To free the rural communities of Kwazulu Natal from the poverty cycle by transforming each into a 'Zimele' community able to ‘stand on its own feet’.
How does Zimele work?
Zimele seeks to build sustainable ‘zimele’ communities through the implementation 3 social and economic development programs designed to be appropriate for rural communities of Kwazulu Natal and easily scaleable. Our three programs are:
- MicroBanks
- MicroBusinesses
- Community Mentoring
Instead of a macro approach, Zimele seeks to change South Africa 1 individual, 1 family, and 1 community at a time.
Where does Zimele operate?
Zimele primarily operates in rural communities of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. Kwazulu Natal, also known as "KZN", is a province in the eastern part of South Africa.
